9. Frequently asked questions#

« Nothing happens when you try to start a calculation, edit a file, or open a terminal on a remote server » or « Return code = 2, Profile copy failed in the message window when starting a calculation »

It is likely that the local machine cannot communicate properly with the remote server. Communications using the rcp/rsh protocol, .rhosts files on the local machine and on remote servers must be filled in correctly. If you use the scp/ssh protocol, the private and public keys must be consistent.

You can check it by leaving astk, and restarting it like this:

astk –debug 0 -—check (–debug 0 is used to limit prints)

Carefully read the information that is printed. astk provides information about the environment variable DISPLAY (check that it is set correctly), and tests the connection between the machine where astk is started and the remote servers. In the event of a connection problem with a server, astk suggests editing the target machine’s .rhosts file.

« When you submit a batch calculation, you get the message: The job number and the class could not be retrieved »

The time or memory required is probably beyond the limits of the work classes. See in the message window, there is probably a message from the batch manager like « Cannot exceed queue’s hard limit (s) ».

Decrease time or memory, or explicitly choose an appropriate batch class from the additional options.

« By clicking on Value by default the file name remains empty »

This function uses the profile name to determine a value by default, the profile must be saved before you can use this function.

Report a bug:

If an error remains unexplained, here is the method for reporting a bug by providing execution traces.

  1. Close astk if it is running and start a new session (this allows to limit the traces to the relevant minimum).

  2. Reproduce the problem by doing the minimum amount of things.

  3. Leave astk and attach the file $ HOME /.astkrc/log.astk (or.astkrc_salome XXXXdans Salome-Meca) to support.
