1. Reference problem#

1.1. Geometry, Materials, and Boundary Conditions#

It is a structure with simple geometry, of the thin cylinder type, filled to the brim and subjected to a defined seismic excitation with stress spectra.

  • geometric parameters of the cylinder:

radius*R = 7 m,

height*H = 21 m,

thickness of the sheet*e = 15 mm,

  • material parameters:

Young’s modulus of the structure (steel)*E = 1.95·1011 Pa,

Poisson’s ratio*ν = 0.3,

density of the structure*rodri = 7850 kg/m3,

density of liquid (water)*rodriL = 1000 kg/m3,

depreciation*c = 4%,

  • boundary conditions:

  • base of the cylinder (lower surface) blocked according to the three degrees of freedom (DDL) of translation,

  • zero pressure at the level of the free surface of the fluid.

1.2. Seismic excitation#

The seismic load is given by a ground spectrum in the two horizontal directions (X and Y) and in the vertical direction (Z).
