This test makes it possible to show how to carry out the calculation of an elasto-plastic structure and its analysis, and in particular to highlight the benefit of using control for a limit load problem. Some ideas can be drawn from this test:

  • Even in the absence of perfect elasto-plastic behavior, there may be a limit load. This is the case with all real traction curves. It is then necessary to adapt the resolution method to the mechanical solution and, for example, to use piloting;

  • Dividing into small load increments is often necessary to properly integrate the behavioral relationship. This can also help with convergence, so it is advisable to use the automatic redistribution of the time step;

  • Linear search can be used to aid convergence, as well as the automatic subdivision of time steps. In the event of a discharge, elastic prediction is an effective solution.
