2. Benchmark solution#

2.1. Calculation method used for the reference solution#

The reference solution comes from OLESIAK and SNEDDON [bib1]:

The expression for the energy recovery rate is as follows:

\(G=\frac{(1-{\nu }^{2})}{E}{K}_{1}^{2}\) with \({K}_{1}=\frac{\alpha E}{\Pi (1-\nu )}{T}_{0}\sqrt{\Pi a}\)

either:

2.2. Benchmark result#

So the reference result is: \(G=5.9115{10}^{-7}J/{m}^{2}\)

2.3. Bibliographical reference#

  1. Uniform Temperature on a Penny-Shaped Crack (OLESIAK and SNEDDON (1959)), picked up in Handbook of Stress-Intensity, Factors by G.C. SIH.
