4. Summary of results#
The preceding tables highlight the importance of the fineness of the frequency discretization of the DSP answer for calculating spectral moments.
The user can choose the step: the frequency band is then discretized uniformly and the peak (s) may be poorly represented: this is the case with 40 steps of \(0.25\mathrm{Hz}\), which results in an error of more than \(\text{40\%}\) on the spectral moments.
The more refined the discretization, the better the result.
To avoid refining unnecessarily far from the peaks, we propose a fairly broad discretization by default supplemented by a refinement of 50 discretization points around each peak.
In the case of this test, which includes only one peak, this discretization by default makes it possible to estimate the spectral moments with a precision of the order of \(\text{2\%}\).
