3. Modeling A#

3.1. Characteristics of modeling#

The geometric method of operator PROPA_FISS is used to propagate the crack. The calculation of the propagation (updating of the level sets) is done directly on the mesh of the structure, i.e. no auxiliary grid is used.

3.2. Characteristics of the mesh#

The mesh is composed of 19464 elements of type TETRA4. The average edge length for mesh elements is \(1.5\mathrm{mm}\).

3.3. Tested sizes and results#

First of all, we test the number of pieces that make up the bottom of the crack at each propagation step:
