In the case of "static substructuration" calculations, the macroelement is calculated by assembling ordinary finite elements and condensing the matrices to "external" degrees of freedom.

In the case of "structural modification", the macroelement is calculated by expansion and condensation of the modal model identified (measured) at "external" degrees of freedom.
